Around our Park this Month
During a high wind storm a few very large branches came down near the lake. No one was hurt and Tony and his two helpers had it all cleaned up, same day. There was no sign of any damage unless you knew where to look. I was amazed at the speed and efficiency with which this was done. Well Done.
Coming up in the park is the famous ‘Chill Out” weekend. We are fully booked out for this year and for Easter which is at the end of this month. If you wish to be a part of all these festivities next year, you must be quick to book early as it is a very popular place for camping. We have musical entertainment in the park each afternoon.
Just a gentle reminder for all our campers, this is a family park and therefore all noise is to cease by 11 pm. Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead at all times and owners must pick up their doggie’s doo doos in a plastic bag and dispose of the remains in the bins dotted around the park. Also, dogs are not to be taken into the kiosk, not even little cute white fluffy ones as food is prepared and sold on the premises. Health Inspectors can turn up at any time.
We were desperately hoping that our new camp kitchen would be up and running by the Labour Day weekend (Chill Out), but due to permit issues with council it has not come to pass. It should be completed though in the next few months.

Bendigo Woollen Mills, 4 Lansell St, Bendigo. Right behind the Tramways Museum. If you are after yarns for hand knitting, crochet or cones of wool for Machine Knitting, this is the place for you to go and visit. This paradise is 75 kms from Daylesford. They also sell needles and crochet hooks, patterns etc. People from all over the world visit here. There are always specials available. www.bendigowoollenmills.com.au
Tylden Junction. Bar, Cafe and Knitting. This place is heavenly and open from Wednesdays to Sundays. This place contains a wool and yarn shop that has all manner of goodies to peruse (Pick up Stitches). Needles, crochet hooks, patterns, rooms of wool and yarns and knitted items. It contains a cafe where you can order coffee, tea and lunch. Everyday there is a fresh sponge cake filled with cream available. People are encouraged to drop in a stay as long as you desire. There are some beautiful areas with couches where you can sit and chat with like minded people and pursue your favourite craft. Maldon Wool Stash – In the historical township of Maldon is a small lovely wool store with a room out the back where you can sit and knit. This gorgeous little store sells Local Spun and Dyed Yarns. 32 Main Street, Maldon.
Patchwork. In Ballan at Millrose Quilting and Gallery you will find a huge range of patchwork fabrics and I mean huge. This place has to be seen to be believed. 92 Inglis St, Ballan. You can drop your husband off next door so they can have a coffee and snack while you browse the fabrics.
For The Children
Fairy Park – Anakie. Heaven for kids. Drive down the Ballan Rd, 2388 Ballan Rd, Anakie. This place has interactive fairytales dotted all over the hillside. There is also the Camelot playground where children just adore Merlin’s Castle and all the other adventures to be had there. Hot water available and barbecues galore. Spinach, Garlic and Fetta Dip
1 clove Garlic
150g baby Spinach Leaves
200g Feta cheese, crumbled
1 cup light Sour Cream
1 teas Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon olive oil, for drizzling (optional)
Focaccia or Turkish Bread or dry biscuits to serve.
- Bring a saucepan of water to the boil. Add garlic and simmer for 1 minute. add spinach and blanch for 1 minute, until wilted. Drain and rinse under cold water. Remove garlic and finely chop. drain spinach again, squeezing out excess water. Roughly chop.
- Place spinach and garlic in a bowl with remaining ingredients. Mix well. Drizzle with oil, if using. Serve with fresh bread or dry biscuits.
Sugar Free or Diabetic Recipe Suitable for Types 1 & 2
1 bunch fresh rhubarb
2 Tbls Erythritol or xylitol
1 Lemon, quartered
1/2 teas ground cinnamon
1 pkt Aeroplane Jelly Lite (Strawberry or Raspberry)
Whipped cream to serve, (optional)
- Wash rhubarb stalks in cold water. Remove any leaves and the base of each stalk. Chop into 2cm lengths and place into a saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Add the quartered lemon, Erythritol or xylitol, cinnamon and 1/2 cup cold water. Place lid on saucepan and bring to the boil. As soon as the rhubarb comes to the boil, turn off the heat but do not remove the lid. Just leave the saucepan to cool down for about 1 hour.
- Empty the contents of 1 packet of Jelly Lite into a heat proof bowl. Add 1 cup of boiling water only and stir until all signs of the gelatine have disappeared.
- Remove the lemon skins from the rhubarb and stir the fruit.
- Gently add all the stewed rhubarb to the jelly mix and stir well to combine all the ingredients. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for a couple of hours.
- Serve with Cream. Cream can be sweetened to taste with powdered (blitz in a processor or blender) Erythritol or Xylitol beforehand.
