Around the Park

So very much is happening now that spring has arrived along with some milder weather. The trees in the park have come to life with their new crowns of green leaves. The park peacocks have been strutting their stuff displaying magnificent tail feathers in a shimmering impressive display to try and attract the attentions of the passing peahens. Baby birds are all over the park both in the trees and the water birds in the lake.

Our Managers have been very busy tidying up the park for the expected influx of visitors. The annuals have had a working bee around the park to also do a tidy up after the long winter.

Our new camp kitchen was very close to being completed the last time I saw it. By Christmas time it should be a fully functioning facility.

Hepburn council has been doing some landscaping around the park planting native shrubs and trees. Shortly they will be removing the willow trees as every council is doing around Australia from waterways as their roots are extremely invasive and they are very thirsty trees. The willow roots destroy weirs and banks of rivers and lakes.

Cup weekend is fully booked out. If you have not booked for Christmas you had better do so quickly. If you have dogs, they must be kept on a lead at all times and you must clean up after them. Coffee, tea and food items are available from the cafe to make your stay with us more enjoyable.

Out and About in Daylesford

Around Daylesford are some fabulous towns to visit. There is so very much happening the best place to find out what is going on is to look up  scroll down to “Upcoming events” and there you can find out all that is happening during your visit. The web site is extensive and well worth a look.

For the Children

Play Cafe. 8/39 East Street, Daylesford. kids love it here and there is a little cafe for tired parents to grab a coffee. ph (03) 5348 1537 for details.

Fairy Park – this is a wonderful place for children and fills a whole day. This place is for the whole family to enjoy. Just  drive down the Ballan Rd to Anakie. There is a giant at the gate waiting to greet you. This place has mountains of fun for the kids having many interactive fairy tales to play with plus Camelot Playground. Beware of Merlins tower! for further details.

For those who Craft

Bendigo Woollen Mill – For those who Hand knit, Machine knit, spin, crochet or felt, this place is heaven. Bendigo is 75kms from Daylesford and the woollen mill is right behind the Tramways Museum which happens to have a cafe. So, while you browse to your hearts content in amongst the wool your partner can go and look at the trams and have a coffee in the cafe conveniently situated next door. check out for further details.

Tylden Junction Pub – This is no ordinary pub. Inside is a wool shop called “Pick up Sticks”. it is amazing and well worth a visit. There is also a cafe, and a bar area where gentlemen may sit and read the paper. There is also a lovely outdoors area where you can sit with others and knit or crochet. Open from Wednesdays – Sundays 10am till 4pm. for further details.

Millrose Quilting and Gallery – 92 Inglis St Ballan. Situated down the road from Daylesford this place is paradise for patchworkers. so very many rooms of patchwork fabrics. So much to try and choose from. Leave your partner next door in the cafe to enjoy a coffee while you browse the goodies on display. for further details.

Camp Recipe

This recipe is easy to make but is not exactly slimming. It is a low carb dessert.

Nuttvia Mousse (Serves 4)

1/2 cup Nuttvia (97% sugar free hazelnut chocolate spread. Generally found on the top shelf in Coles                                               above the sugar laden versions of that spread)

300ml thickened cream

100gm (sugar free) chocolate


1. Melt chocolate and set aside to cool.

2. Whip cream until thick and beat in the Nuttvia

3. Fold through the melted chocolate and portion into 4 serving bowls.

4. Chill in fridge until ready to serve.

5. Enjoy.
